Pixar’s new film “Elio” had the studio’s worst box office opening ever, earning $21m in North America and $14m internationally. The alien-themed animation faced tough competition from DreamWorks’ “How To Train Your Dragon” and Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later.” Pixar has struggled with original animations against franchises and remakes, despite past successes.
