An 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific, reaching as far as New Zealand and California. The quake, centered east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, was the strongest in the region since 1952. Damage reports are emerging from Russia, with a kindergarten affected. Tsunami waves of 1 to 3 meters are possible in various coastal areas.
