A rapidly growing wildfire, the Mount Underwood fire, is burning south of Port Alberni, now spanning 630 hectares. The highway between Port Alberni and Bamfield is closed, and nearby China Creek Campground has been evacuated. Over 500 customers are without power, and firefighting efforts are ongoing. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
