The American Petroleum Institute reported a surprise increase of 680,000 barrels in US crude oil inventories, contrary to analyst expectations of a drawdown. Despite a recent drop of over 22 million barrels, inventories are up 4 million barrels this year. Gasoline inventories rose, while distillate inventories fell significantly. Brent crude and WTI prices saw slight increases. Cushing inventories decreased.
