Asylum seekers in federally-funded hotels will need to find new housing as funding ends on September 30, 2025. The IRCC has spent $1.1 billion on temporary hotel housing since 2020. Experts warn that with high demand and low supply in municipal shelters, many may face homelessness or unsafe living conditions. Over 15,000 have transitioned to independent living.
