Federal official Alex Benay revealed that fixing Phoenix payroll issues cost over $5 billion. Ottawa will continue running both Phoenix and its replacement, Dayforce, to transition smoothly. Benay emphasized avoiding a risky “big bang” deployment. The new system aims for a more human-centered approach. Initial Phoenix costs were $309 million, with Dayforce’s contract at $350.6 million. Transition will start with Shared Services Canada and Public Services Procurement Canada.
