Gulutzan had successful coaching stints in AHL and ECHL before NHL. In AHL, he led Texas Stars to Calder Cup Finals in 2009-10. In ECHL, he coached Las Vegas Wranglers for six seasons, reaching Kelly Cup Finals in 2007-08. Gulutzan was selected to coach ECHL All-Star Game thrice and won the John Brophy Award in 2005-06 as coach of the year.
