B.C. lost 16,300 jobs in July, raising the unemployment rate to 5.9%. Minister Ravi Kahlon attributed the losses to U.S. tariffs. The largest declines were in construction, education, and healthcare. Nationally, employment fell by 41,000, but the unemployment rate remained at 6.9%. B.C.’s youth unemployment rate decreased to 12.1%. Alberta experienced greater job losses.
