The Vancouver Canucks’ hopes of acquiring defenseman Bowen Byram from the Buffalo Sabres have diminished as Byram is close to signing a new two-year contract with Buffalo, avoiding arbitration. Byram, a restricted free agent, had been linked to the Canucks but the cost of acquisition remains uncertain. He recorded 38 points in 82 games last season.
