Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated “actor,” has released a new music video called “Take The Lead,” stirring fresh debate in Hollywood.

AI Star Releases Surreal Music Video

The video features Norwood singing about AI’s role in creativity, with lyrics like “AI’s not the enemy, it’s the key.” It dropped days before the Oscars, hinting at her upcoming debut and a broader AI entertainment universe called the “Tilly-Verse.” The visuals are surreal, showing Norwood on a disco ball, flying on an inflatable flamingo, and riding in a limousine.

The production credits 18 humans for everything from costume design to acting, emphasizing that Norwood is a collaboration between AI and people. Despite this, many viewers have criticized the video, calling it awkward and overly artificial.

Eline Van der Velden is the creator of the first ever AI actor – Tilly Norwood.

Eline talks about the ethics of her creation – which has come under scrutiny from Hollywood's performers' union.

The Economic Times highlighted the video’s playful nods to Norwood’s AI identity, such as failing a CAPTCHA test and a fan sign saying, “Tilly, I’ll eat all your cookies.” Particle6 CEO Eline van der Velden, Norwood’s creator, said AI is a “new paintbrush,” not a replacement for human artists.

Eline van der Velden addressed the backlash directly on X, writing:

Chris Pratt says the buzz around the possibility of an AI actress like Tilly Norwood is “bullshit”

Hollywood has largely rejected Norwood. SAG-AFTRA warned that AI characters like her “use stolen performances to put actors out of work,” threatening jobs and devaluing human creativity. Some actors went as far as threatening boycotts against agencies that sign AI talent.

Van der Velden, an actor herself, said she enjoys bringing Norwood to life through performance capture. She said, “Even with brilliant new technology, it’s still important to stress that great AI content isn’t instant — it always takes good ideas, taste, direction, judgment and time. People remain at the heart of it.”

Norwood’s lyrics reflect the controversy, singing, “When they talk about me, they don’t see the human spark, the creativity… I’m just a tool, but I’ve got life.”

What Comes Next?

The video’s release ties into Norwood’s planned acting debut this year and the launch of the “Tilly-Verse,” a world where AI characters interact and perform. Particle6 hints that Norwood might even appear at the Oscars, joking in the video description about “free valet parking for my flamingo.”

Whether Norwood will gain acceptance or further controversy remains to be seen. For now, her new video keeps the conversation alive about AI’s place in Hollywood and what it means for human actors.
